Senegal Industrial Output Growth Highest in Over a Year
Senegal's industrial production advanced 5.9 percent year-on-year in August 2019, the most since July last year, compared to an upwardly revised 4.5 percent rise in the previous month. Within manufacturing, production grew faster for paper & cardboard (33.7 percent vs 20 percent in July); building materials (2.1 percent vs 2.0 percent) and it rebounded for chemicals (7.3 percent vs -9.2 percent) and mechanical industries (63 percent vs -2 percent). However, food production rose much less (5.3 percent vs 26.8 percent). At the same time, energy continued to grow solidly (8 percent vs 10 percent) and mining output recovered slightly (0.4 percent vs -3.6 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production declined 5 percent, following a 3.1 percent increase in the previous month. Year-to-date, industrial activity grew 2.8 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Senegal Industrial Output Growth at 3-Month Low
Senegal's industrial production advanced 4.1 percent year-on-year in July 2019 compared to a downwardly revised 4.5 percent rise in the prior month. It was the lowest gain in industrial activity since April mainly due to lower output from mining (-3.6 percent vs 7.1 percent in June). Within manufacturing, production fell for chemicals (-9.2 percent vs 6.2 percent) and mechanical industries (-2.0 percent vs -40.3 percent) but rose sharply for food (24.3 percent vs 1.6 percent) and paper & cardboard (20.1 percent vs 17.2 percent). Meantime, output grew faster for energy (10.4 percent vs 8.8 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production went up 3.1 percent, after an upwardly revised 5.2 percent decline in the previous month.

Senegal June Industrial Output Growth Slows to 5%
Senegal's industrial production grew 5.0 percent year-on-year in June 2019 compared to an upwardly revised 5.2 percent gain in the prior month, as output rose less for energy (8.8 percent vs 13.6 percent in May) and mining (7.1 percent vs 12.9 percent). Within manufacturing, growth was dampened by paper and cardboard (17.2 percent vs 35.8 percent); food (3.5 percent vs 4.6 percent) and mechanical industries (-40.3 percent vs 3.1 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production shrank 4.7 percent, following a 4.8 percent surge in the previous month. In the first half of the year, industrial activity advanced 2.2 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Senegal Industrial Output Rises at Faster Pace
Senegal's industrial production growth accelerated to 5.1 percent year-on-year in May 2019 from a revised 1 percent in the previous month, as energy output rose at a faster pace (13.6 percent vs 9.7 percent) and mining output rebounded sharply (12.9 percent vs -19.7 percent). Within manufacturing, paper and cardboard output grew the most (35.8 percent vs -21.5 percent), followed by food (4.6 percent vs 28.6 percent), mechanical industries (3.1 percent vs -18.9 percent), and building materials (2.6 percent vs -8.6 percent). By contrast, chemicals production continued to fall (-1.4 percent vs -17.5 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output surged 4.8 percent, reversing a 4.8 percent contraction in April.

Senegal Industrial Output Rebounds in April
Industrial production in Senegal rose 0.9% year-on-year in April 2019, following a downwardly revised 5.2% decline in the previous month. Output rebounded for food (28.3 percent vs -9.5 percent in March) and it continued to advance solidly for energy (9.7 percent vs 8 percent), mostly due to electricity (11.6 percent vs 8.4 percent). In contrast, production shrank for mining (-19.7 percent vs 10.3 percent); paper products (-21.5 percent vs 11.9 percent); chemicals (-17.5 percent vs -5.9 percent); building materials (-8.6 percent vs -12.5 percent) and steel products (-53.5 percent vs -24 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 4.7 percent, after an upwardly revised 2.4 percent gain in the prior month. Considering the first four months of 2019, industrial activity grew 0.9 percent over a year ago.

Senegal Industrial Output Dips 6.2% YoY in March
Industrial production in Senegal shrank 6.2% year-on-year in March 2019, after an upwardly revised 4.1% rise in the previous month. Output declined in manufacture of food (-12.3% vs -2.3% in February); building materials (-12.5% vs -0.2%); chemicals (-6.4% vs 13.5%) and mechanical products (-6.8% vs -27.4%). Also, output growth slowed for energy (8% vs 13.2%). In contrast, production rebounded sharply for mining (10.8% vs -7.6%), on higher extraction of phosphate (15.7% vs -19.4%) and stones, sand and clay (15% vs 11.1%). On a monthly basis, industrial production rose 1.5%, recovering from a 6.8% slump in the previous month. Considering the first three months of 2019, industrial activity grew 0.5% over a year ago.
